The Safe Kids Wayne County Coalition will partner with police to run two Operation Medicine Drop events. Residents can drop off old pills and prescriptions during National Poison Prevention Week. The Goldsboro Police Department and Wayne County Sheriff's Office are working together to reduce accidental poisonings and medication misuse, as shared by Goldsborough Daily News.
Two drop-off events happen next week. The first occurs Tuesday, March 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mae's Restaurant in Seven Springs.
The second runs Wednesday, March 18, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Cry Freedom Missions Thrift Shop.
People can bring old prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines they no longer need. Organizers say this stops kids from swallowing pills by mistake, prevents drug abuse, and keeps chemicals out of water sources when people throw medicines away the wrong way.
Officials warn they can't take hazardous materials, liquids, or creams. If you bring pill bottles with your name on them, cross out any personal details before you hand them over.
Community members should use this chance to clean out their medicine cabinets. It protects kids and families while keeping harmful substances out of rivers and streams.
