Greystone Pickleball Club opened its doors Saturday, March 14, in Auburn Hills. This marks the first setup of its kind in Michigan. The 60,000-square-foot complex boasts 17 indoor courts, spaces for events, a full kitchen, and multiple bars, according to WXYZ.
A championship court anchors the venue. It can seat over 300 spectators. VIP viewing boxes perch above. Coaching programs run throughout the week, while private lessons cater to players seeking one-on-one instruction. A pro shop sells equipment, as shared by Times Now News.
The club stands on Opdyke Road in Auburn Hills. Local officials greenlit the project as part of efforts to expand what residents can do for recreation and offer places to play indoors when temperatures drop.
Pickleball participation has exploded nationwide. The number of players jumped from 4.8 million in 2021 to an estimated 19.8 million by 2024. That's growth exceeding 300 percent.
The United States now features more than 68,000 pickleball courts spread across over 16,000 venues, per USA Pickleball annual growth data and industry databases. Studies by the Sports and Fitness Industry Association show triple-digit growth in recent years, crowning it the fastest-growing sport in the nation.
That surge has packed courts. Waiting lists have sprouted up across the country. Public parks and converted tennis courts are jammed from morning until late evening in cities from Florida to California and increasingly throughout the Midwest.
Developers and local governments have scrambled to build bigger facilities in response. The result? A wave of construction projects targeting players who struggled to find available court time.
The club merges tournament-ready courts with hospitality perks and spaces for gatherings. Developers hope the venue will anchor the sport in southeast Michigan.
This setup represents a departure from when the game was mostly confined to community centers and converted tennis courts. Large-scale venues like this one are materializing across the country as the sport cements itself as a permanent fixture in American athletics.
