Detroit’s own Boogie isn’t waiting for Hollywood to come knocking—he’s building the door himself.
In a recent conversation with Mason and Angie Starr on 105.9 KISS-FM, the veteran stand-up comic revealed he’s just wrapped up filming his own Netflix-ready comedy special—and he did it without waiting for permission.
“I invested in myself. I hired a film crew. I put down thousands of dollars for this,” Boogie said. “Who else is gonna do it?”
The special was shot at Punchline Comedy Lounge, a local favorite in metro Detroit, and features crisp 4K visuals, professional lighting, and top-tier sound. Boogie made sure the quality matched what you’d expect from a Netflix or HBO production.
“I’ve been talking to Kevin Hart’s people. They said: just make sure it’s 4K, make sure it’s clear, make sure the audio is tight.”
For Boogie, this wasn’t just another project—it was a leap of faith.
“I’m shopping it around. I got the final cut. Now it’s time to see what they say.”
He gave shoutouts to the crew who helped him make it happen: DCAM Productions, Darren from Zellman Unlimited, and of course, Punchline Comedy and its team for hosting the event.
“Shout out to Ty, shout out to Punchline. They believed in it too.”
Boogie has been a fixture in the comedy scene for over two decades, performing everywhere from hometown stages to national tours. But this moment represents something different: ownership, vision, and hustle.
“God is good. Super thankful,” he said. “I’ve been back and forth to Atlanta, just making moves. It’s been a journey.”
With big names watching—like Kevin Hart’s camp—and a self-funded project in hand, Boogie is proving that betting on yourself is always in style.
