The store will be located close to Sashabaw Road and the Interstate 75 freeway. As part of the Walden Village development, Meijer's new Independence Market is the fifth Michigan store among its smaller-footprint neighborhood markets. The Fairfax Market in Cleveland opened last year.
“Independence Market is committed to serving our new neighbors with value and convenience that makes it easy to get in and out quickly,” Independence Market store director Robert Lajcaj said in a news release shared with the Detroit Free Press. “Our team has been working hard to get the store ready to open with a great assortment of local and national brand products, and we can't wait to welcome our neighbors next month.”
Meijer has designed its smaller stores to reflect the appeal and vibe of a neighborhood grocer. While the neighborhood markets are smaller, they also carry a selection of grocery items, such as fresh meat, produce, and deli items. The stores also feature national brands, a Meijer brand, and a bakery.
The Independence Market will also offer thousands of locally sourced products, including Shaded Bloom Coffee Roasters, skin care products from Allow Nourishment, and ice cream from Cook's Dairy Farm.
Independence Market's cafe space will include coffee and Latin street food from Honcho in Clarkston. Honcho, part of the Union Joints restaurant group, manages more than a dozen Metro Detroit restaurants, including Union Woodshop in Clarkston and Vinsetta Garage in Berkley.
Independence Market will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
