Shake Shack Closing 9 Underperforming Locations Nationwide
Shake Shack announced it will be closing 9 underperforming locations across the country. Will the location near you be going away?
It sounds like some Shake Shack locations in California, Texas, and Ohio will be closing their doors. The chain has some of the best burgers on the market, but even that isn’t enough to bring in customers, apparently. It’s the latest sign that fast-food and restaurant chains are really going through it right now.
What Shake Shack Locations Are Closing?
Red Lobster famously went through some financial trouble recently and had to rely on Flavor Flav to try to save the day. However, fast-food joints aren’t immune to these problems. They’ve also been struggling to bring customers back and have been relying on value menus, bargain combo meals, and even nostalgia to bring customers back. Now, even places like Shake Shack seem to be in some trouble.
If you’ve never had Shake Shack, you are definitely missing out. It’s a smash burger that doesn’t taste too greasy and always hits the spot. There’s something about that crisp lettuce, soft bun, and delicious Shack Sauce that makes it one of the best burgers you can find. Sure, In-N-Out gets all the hype (and rightfully so) but Shake Shack deserves its flowers, too. Not only do they have fantastic burgers, but their shakes are good too (as you’d expect with it being in their name). I’m usually not a big crinkle cut fry guy, but I’ll eat theirs any day. Additionally, they have hot dogs and a ‘Shroom Burger that will blow your mind. I think I know where I’m going for lunch today.
According to Cleveland.com, filings with the Securities & Exchange Commission say the problems were “in part due to changes in the trade area and, in some cases, are negatively impacting other Shacks withing their proximity by cannibalizing sales.” Okay, so they’re saying they are closing these locations because other Shake Shack locations nearby are causing them to underperform. That’s a nice spin. Hopefully it’s true, but it sounds like some solid PR going on. Cleveland.com reports that the Shake Shack in the Polaris Fashion Place in Columbus, Ohio is one of the locations that will close by September 25th. Additionally, locations in Oakland, California; several locations throughout greater Los Angeles including Bunker Hill, Culver City, Koreatown, Silverlake, and the Westfield Topanga Mall; and the Galleria mall and Montrose neighborhood in Houston, Texas will also be closing down soon, per Cleveland.com.
Despite these closures, they say it shouldn’t impact their plans to expand and that no other closures are expected outside of these 9. So, if you haven’t tried it yet, now is a great time to go out and support Shake Shack and give it a try!
