Ms. Lauryn Hill has shared the reason for the last-minute cancellation of her and The Fugees' North American tour dates. In a brief statement, the artist explained that the cancellation was due to an injury she sustained in 2023. Hill also criticized unnamed media outlets for their “penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines,” accusing them of “[creating] a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour.”

“The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal,” she stated. “Performing for my fans is a profound exchange of energy and emotion that excites me every time. Every show is a piece of my expression and a testament to our connection and shared love for music. I can assure you that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform than I am.”

Despite the setback, The Fugees will continue with their UK and Europe tour dates this October, and Hill promises to reschedule their North American dates “when these unforeseen circumstances are resolved.”

However, fans were not entirely satisfied with the singer’s statement. One person commented on social media, “Refusing to be accountable is the reason.” Another echoed the sentiment, stating, “She can't be serious. Her poor attendance is why she isn't being paid. Her job was to entertain and she failed. That's why she's been fired....” Someone else added, “Girl. You were NEVER on time or even showed up for your shows. Even if it was bad promo, her past behaviors and lack of respect for fans is part of the reason. I’ll never forget what she did in 2014. I ain’t looked back.”

The U.S. tour featuring Ms. Lauryn Hill and the Fugees, scheduled for late summer and fall, was canceled. Ticketmaster has removed the dates, and ticketholders received refund notices late Tuesday (Aug. 6).

Fans received a brief message from Live Nation stating, “Your event has been canceled. A refund will be on its way to your account soon.” The tour was set to start on Friday in Tampa, with the American leg concluding at the Hollywood Bowl on Sept. 17 and additional shows in New York and New Jersey on Sept. 20-21. Other affected cities included Atlanta, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston, and Milwaukee, totaling 18 U.S. dates.

Despite the cancellation of the U.S. dates, tickets for the overseas portion of the tour, starting in Manchester, England, on Oct. 12 and ending in Amsterdam on Oct. 22, remain available. It’s unclear whether these European dates will also be canceled or continue as planned.
