Why Nicki Minaj Refused To Perform ‘Starships’ At Latest Gig
According to Nicki Minaj, starships were not meant to fly. The Grammy-nominated rapper was performing at Miami’s E11EVEN on New Year’s Eve when she waved to the DJ to stop playing the song.
“Hold on. Psych, psych, psych, psych. I don’t perform that song no more, y’all,” Nicki told the audience in a TikTok video. “I don’t like it, what y’all want me to do?”
“Stupid song,” she added as boos from the crowd erupted. Watch video of the moment here.
“Starships” is from the rapper’s 2012 sophomore album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. It is one of the rapper’s most successful songs in her discography which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 31 weeks on the chart according to Billboard.
Nicki Minaj To Head On Pink Friday 2 Tour
“Starship” stans don’t worry because there is still a brand new album from Nicki to jam to. The Queens native dropped her fifth studio album Pink Friday 2 last month. The project features guest appearances from Drake, J. Cole, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Wayne, and Future. The 22-track album also contains previously released songs “Super Freaky Girl,” “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” and “Last Time I Saw You.”
Nicki will also be going on tour this year which she announced last month once the dates were revealed.
“BARBZZZ!!,” she announced on Instagram on Dec. 11. “It’s time for the #GagCity TOUR. So excited to see you guys!! Presale this week and tickets available FRIDAY.”
Nicki will travel around the United States in cities such as Atlanta, Chicago, Las Vegas, New Orleans, her home city of New York, and more. She will also stop by Canada, making stops in Montreal and Toronto before heading to Europe to visit fans in Paris, London, Amsterdam, and more.
This is the rapper’s first solo tour since The Pinkprint Tour in 2015 and 2016. In 2019, she had The Nicki Wrld Tour but was joined by the late Juice Wrld as a co-headliner.
