Detroit Lions Training Camp Begins
Its an exciting time to be a Lions Fan. For the first time since 1957, the Lions are expected to contend in the NFC North and perhaps win a playoff game. The team opened training camp on Sunday. Getting positive preseason attention is nice, but somewhat unsettling for a team that isn’t used to it. Lions defensive lineman Aidan Hutchinson said the way the team stays poised is by, “keeping the underdog mentality.” Hutchinson also said, “We haven’t won anything yet. Obviously, there’s a lot of expectations but we still feel like the underdogs.” Lions quarterback Jared Goff spoke to the media and said “It’s funny to me that you go 9-8 and you don’t make the playoffs and now all of the sudden you’re the favorite. Of course, we’ve got good players, we’ve got good coaches, we’ve got a good team. But we haven’t done anything. … We’ve got some work to do to put a stamp on who we want to be and we’re nowhere near that yet.”
Last season, Detroit finished the season winning seven of their last nine games, including a 20-16 victory against the Packers in Green Bay ending the Packers season as well as Aaron Rogers tenor in Green Bay. As a result of the Lions amazing turnaround last season, the expectations for this season are much higher. Fans and analyst are excited to see what the team has in store for the upcoming season.
The Lions added some key additions to not only the offense and defense, adding players like David Montgomery, Jahmyr Gibbs Sam LaPorta, CJ Gardner-Johnson, and Cam Sutton, but they also added some key addition to the coaching staff. The team hired great defensive minds like former super bowl champion head coach John Fox and former Lions cornerback Dre Bly to help on the defensive side of the ball. A place the team desperately struggled with last season.
With all the hype that’s surrounding the team, there is one person who isn’t sold at all, head coach Dan Campbell is not buying it. Campbell told the media, “The thing has just taken off and it’s out of control right now. That’s fine as long as we stay focused on the job and work. I just keep going back to that. We’ve got to put the work in and earn it.” Lions fans are you ready?
