Detroit Lions Regular Season Schedule Released. What Game Will You Be Attending This Season?
While most fans knew who the Lions would be playing this upcoming season months ago, they did not know the order nor the time that they would be playing said games. All the anticipation is over as the 2023-24 Detroit Lions regular season schedule was released last night. As we all know by now, the Lions will play the Chiefs to kickoff the NFL season, but what will be different this season compared to last season is that the Lions will have four, ( potentially five depending on the Lions Week 15 game at home vs. Broncos is TBD) primetime games. Last season the Lions were not given any primetime games until their finale against the Green Bay Packers.
NFL vice president of broadcasting Onnie Bose told “The Dan Patrick Show,” “We really like that narrative around that team. As you well know, the culture that they’re building there, the way they finished that season — eight wins out of their last nine or 10 games. Last time we saw them on national television was the last game, game 272 of the regular season, and they were beating the Packers in Lambeau to keep Aaron Rodgers out of the playoffs. We really like that.” Onnie Bose also spoke to the decision to put the Lions against the Chiefs opening night, Bose said, “There’s a lot of energy there, and we feel really good about starting the season with that energy against the Super Bowl champs.”
It will be a tough start to the season for the Lions playing the Chiefs and Seahawks, who both made the playoffs last season it would be amazing to see the team win one or both of those games (wishful thinking) just to show the league they are for real. Things get much smoother after that though. A four-game stretch begins with the Lions facing teams with brand new quarterbacks, including (presumably) Desmond Ridder and the Falcons, Jordan Love and the Packers, Bryce Young and the Panthers, and Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers. The Lions will play the packers for the annual Thanksgiving game this year. The Lions will also host the Raiders for MNF then head right into a week 9 bye. At this point, this team could be potentially have a 6-2 record or better. Even if it’s worse, it would be a great time for the team to get healthy going into the bye week to finish out the remainder of the season. Below is the full Lions regular season schedule.
