Sheri Underwood, MSN, BSN, RN: Group Chief Nursing Officer
Sheri Underwood, MSN, BSN, RN is the Group Chief Nursing Officer of the Detroit Medical Center. She joined the DMC in September 2018 as the Chief Nursing Officer for Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital in Commerce Township and was appointed to this expanded role as GCNO in 2020.
She is responsible for strategic planning, involving maintaining standards of care, monitoring nursing staff improvements and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. She oversees the quality and efficiency of patient care, and is responsible for fostering an environment to promote high-quality professional nursing practice including evidence-based practice, a supportive research climate and shared governance approach to nursing services.
Sheri came to the DMC from Huron Healthcare’s Studer Group in Pensacola, Florida where she served as account leader and patient experience coach. She also served in progressive leadership roles with McLaren Health Care, including serving as Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at McLaren Central Michigan Hospital in Mount Pleasant. She began her nursing career at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.
She earned her Master’s degree in Nursing from Saginaw Valley State University and her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Oakland University in Rochester.
