Travis McMichael, one of the three white men convicted in the killing of Ahmaud Arbery, has been sentenced to life in prison plus 10 years on federal hate crime charges Monday (Aug 8), CNN reports.
Travis’ father Gregory McMichael and their neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan are due to be sentenced later Monday. All three men are already serving life sentences for their convictions in state court.
Back in January, a jury found that the three men, who are white, violated Arbery’s civil rights and targeted him because he was Black.
Arbery was jogging in a neighborhood outside Brunswick, Georgia on Feb. 23, 2020 when the McMichaels and Bryan armed themselves and initiated the deadly pursuit that led to 25-year-old’s death.
Travis McMichael, and Gregory McMichael were sentenced to life in prison without parole and William “Roddie” Bryan was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
