NYPD Apprehends Brooklyn Subway Shooter
Earlier today, the New York City Police Department announced that they arrested the man who they say opened fire on a Broookyn subway train during rush hour Tuesday morning, according to USA Today. The attack left more than two dozen people injured.
Frank R. James, 62, was arrested Wednesday in New York City after NYPD officers stopped him in Manhattan’s East Village, Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said at a news conference. Officials said that Mr. James was apprehended thanks to a tip that came in via the Crime Stoppers line. The call came from a McDonald’s on Sixth Street and First Avenue, according to the New York Times. The officers found Mr. James on the corner of St. Marks Place and 1st Avenue, one of the busiest intersections in the East Village, and took him into custody without incident.
“We were able to shrink his world quickly,” said Commissioner Sewell. “There was nowhere left for him to run.” Mr. James has a criminal history, officials said, including nine prior arrests in New York, mostly for misdemeanors, and three arrests in New Jersey.
Breon Peace, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, said James faces a federal terrorism charge targeting a mass transit system. James would be arraigned in federal court in Brooklyn and face life in prison if convicted, he said.
