NBA Foundation Is Set To Grant $11 Millions To Non-Profit Originations
In its second year of grantmaking, the NBA Foundation announced 40 new contributions totaling $11 million to organizations helping black children in the United States and Canada find employment, advance their careers, and become more economically empowered. Since its establishment by the NBA Board of Governors in 2020 with a commitment of $300 million over 10 years, the NBA Foundation has given out 118 grants totaling more than $33 million to non-profit organizations. There are six grant renewals in the Foundation’s fifth grant round, totaling over $1 million. These grants include: The Exalt, Marcus Graham Project, Operation DREAM, TEAM Inc., and The Knowledge House. The awards will allow their communities to develop a pipeline for high school students, college students, job-ready individuals, and mid-career professionals.
Greg Taylor, NBA Foundation Executive Director said, “As we enter our second year of funding and surpass the $30 million initially provided by the NBA Board of Governors to establish the Foundation, our work with national and local organizations that are driving economic opportunity for Black youth in the NBA’s 28 markets continues to strengthen and evolve. We look forward to our growth in the year ahead and are excited to establish new relationships with non-profits serving Black youth and to further collaborate with the organizations who have demonstrated their impact.”
In addition to using the NBA Board of Governors’ collective $30 million commitment each year, the NBA Foundation collaborates with all 30 NBA teams’ affiliated charities along with the NBA Players Association to support local and national causes within their respective markets.
