One of the longest-running reality shows is “Survivor,” and it honestly baffles me that the show is still on the air. The American series debuted on May 31, 2000, on CBS, and I can honestly say that I’ve never watched one episode. I might need to check it out this season, though, since a Michigan native is slated to appear on the popular show.

The new season of “Survivor” premieres Wednesday (March 9) on CBS. The upcoming season was supposed to debut in Spring 2021, but production got pushed back due to the pandemic. This season will feature 18 all-new contestants, all coming from very different backgrounds and walks of life. They’re all different ages and have very diverse occupations. The contestants will compete in Fiji, going up against each other for $1 million.

So, who is representing Michigan this year? Marya Sherron, 47, is a Lansing native, and she’ll appear on the show. Her current residence is in Noblesville, Indiana, and she’s a stay-at-home mom. Her hobbies include gardening, writing (poetry and spoken word), and Pilates, according to EW.com. The three words she would choose to describe herself are “spicy, smart, loving,” according to the outlet.

So, what’s the accomplishment she’s most proud of? “Living my life as I believe I should; being the me I like and respect,” she tells EW.com. “My teaching awards are pretty cool too. Moms always feel like we need to say our kids are our proudest accomplishment — I think that goes without saying.” She adds that her “greatest asset is my emotional intelligence and ability to accurately read people. My game will be easy to argue at the final three. I believe being likable and smart/savvy pays off in the end and secures the vote.” Time will tell if Sherron goes all the way and scores that grand prize.
