Detroit! In case you weren’t aware January 19th is national Popcorn Day! National Popcorn Day was the first National Day on the calendar in 2013. According to National Day Caldendar.com, Americans consume more popcorn than any other country in the world, with 13 billion quarts consumed each year. Popcorn started becoming popular in the United States around the mid 1800s. In 1881, a candy store owner by the name of Charles Cretors invented a machine for popping corn with steam. Only then did the tasty treat become more widely available. By 1900, Creators had horse-drawn popcorn wagons plied in the Chicago’s streets.
