Michigan in for the Coldest, Most Dangerous Weather of the Season
If you don’t have a snuggly warm blanket yet, now is the time to get one, because the coldest temperatures of the Michigan winter season are on the way. We knew it was coming. After a mild November and December, all of that cold is bottled up and ready to unleash itself onto the Mitten. I would like to fast-forward to April or perhaps May, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.
It was sunny and beautiful throughout much of Michigan on Monday (Jan. 10), but cold, and temperatures are dropping quickly. Tonight, according to Weather.com, wind chills will take temperatures across the state well below zero. That will mark the lowest temperatures of the season, so far.
In the Lower Peninsula, temperatures will be around 10 degrees closer to midnight, and wind chills will head below zero. Actually temperatures are expected to drop as low as -5 across much of the Lower Peninsula, with some areas getting double-digit negatives. Please remember to bring your pets indoors.
According to the National Weather Service, in the Upper Peninsula, the area from Sault Ste. Marie and to the Keweenaw Peninsula is expected to get lots of snow- we’re talking up to a foot. Most of the U.P. is in for a round of snow, anywhere from three inches to a foot. Wind chills could also drop to -30 in the U.P., according to the National Weather Service.
The next few days are also projected to bring below average temperatures to most of Michigan, according to Weather.com, with temperatures at least 5 degrees lower than average. Bundle up.
