Michigan Tips to Prepare Your Home and Car for Winter
Winter is on the way, and it’s best we prepare. To help Michiganders know what to do to get ready for the cold winter months, the Michigan State Police have put out some useful tips on how Michiganders should prepare their homes and their cars for the winter. I’m certainly not a fan of winter, so I’ll be following these tips to keep the season as drama-free as possible. =
The MSP says to follow these tips to get your car ready for winter:
Have your car’s radiator system serviced
Replace your car’s windshield wipers and fluid
Have your car’s brakes, brake fluid, oil, battery, heater & exhaust checked
Keep an emergency preparedness kit in your vehicle with batteries, battery-powered or crank radio, flashlight, scraper, jumper cables, mobile phone charger, shovel, blankets and other items
The MSP says to follow these tips to get your car ready for winter:
Install weather stripping and caulking and insulating windows and doors
Insulate water lines that run along exterior walls
Have your furnaces inspected
Have fireplace and chimney cleaned
Install battery-operated carbon monoxide detectors near sleeping areas
Clean gutters to prevent ice dams from forming
Clear storm drain
Have an emergency preparedness kit stored safely in your house with water, nonperishable food, a first aid kit, extra batteries, a battery or hand-crank powered radio, emergency lighting or flashlights, extra blankets and warm clothing
