The 36th annual Stellar Awards were taped last week and will air on BET at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Aug. 1.

The show proved to be a star-studded event, with gospel acts Jekalyn Carr and Tye Tribbett hosting the full evening. The show, which honors excellence in gospel music, also featured performances from a wide range of artists.

Detroit’s legendary Clark Sisters received the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by AT&T, at the show. They also performed “Is My Living In Vain,” “Blessed & Highly Favored,” “You Brought The Sunshine,” and “His Love.” The group was up for three awards this year.

As for the new generation of gospel artists, Pastor Mike Jr. performed “Big,” and Carr performed her songs, “Change Your Story” and “Jehovah Jireh.” Maverick City Music gave a passionate rendition of “Jireh,” and other up-and-comers also performed, including Jokia, Terrian and Nia Allen.

The night’s biggest winners included Pastor Mike Jr., who took home Artist of the Year, Rap/Hip Hop Gospel Album of the Year and Urban/Inspirational Single or Performance of the Year.

Kierra Sheard scored Song of the Year and Contemporary Album of the Year. Maverick City Music won both New Artist of the Year and Album of the Year.

Other multiple Stellar Awards winners included Jonathan McReynolds and Tasha Cobbs Leonard.

One stunning moment was when Yolanda Adams, Tamela Mann, and Avery*Sunshine teamed up to perform a moving tribute to Lady Tramaine Hawkins, who was honored with the Aretha Franklin Icon Award presented by Toyota.
