University of Michigan is the No. 1 Public University in the U.S. for a Sixth Year, Study Says
Congratulations are in order for the University of Michigan, as the university has been ranked the No. 1 public university in the United States by the QS World University Rankings for 2021-22.
It’s not the first time, either. This is Michigan’s sixth-straight year receiving the honor.
According to QS, this year’s university rankings are their largest ever. They evaluated each institution according to six key metrics: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.
On the full list of world universities, including both public and private, Michigan ranked an overall No. 23.
“Michigan has been lauded for having high standards of research, and the university’s comprehensive graduate program offers doctoral degrees in the humanities, social sciences, and STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) as well as professional degrees in architecture, business, medicine, law, pharmacy, nursing, social work, public health, and dentistry,” QS states of the University of Michigan on their website.
They added, “Michigan’s body of living alumni comprises more than a half million people, which is one of the largest alumni bases of any university in the world and a valuable resource for current students when it comes to networking and building industry connections.”
Michigan State University also appeared on the list, coming in at No. 157. Michigan Technical Institute came in at 651-700 on the list, and Western Michigan clocked in at 1001-1200.
