This past weekend it was reported that Facebook had a major data breach where many of people’s accounts were linked to valuable information. Here a KISS FM Detroit we want to make sure that you, your family, and friends are all protected and let you know how to find out if the account has.
The data breach happened in 2019 and was first reported recently by ZDNet. They found that over 500 million accounts were comprised around the world, where hackers were able to link accounts to personal phone numbers and emails, the hackers link home addresses to the accounts as well. Even Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s account was hacked as well.
However, when Facebook was asked about the attack the response was that the information was old data and didn’t compromise vital information. In addition, Facebook is not providing a way to check if your information was comprised through their website.
What To Do
Here on the Mason & Star show, we know that any personal data is important to everyone and we want to make sure our listener s know how to protect their accounts and how to find out if you’ve been comprised. A third-party website, haveibeenpwned.com is offering a way to see if your information is in the wrong hands. As a producer of the show, I checked out the site and entered my email to see if it had been compromised. Luckily the results came back that none of my data has been taken.
For The Future
If you try this website and it finds that you have been compromised we suggest for you to change your Facebook password and any account linked to the account. Also, there are many sites that help protect you against data breaches for now and in the future. Firefox Monitor offers a great service for this, all you have to do is register with your email and they’ll keep you informed. Google also offers this feature within their applications for being an account user.
Here on Mason & Starr, we strive to protect the city of Detroit and make sure our people are updated on great information like this. Keep posted on our Facebook and Twitter pages, and listen to Detroit’s new morning show from 6 am- 10 am every weekday!
